Saving Arthurs Seat

On 27 April, I did a poll on my Facebook page which asked for the community’s views on the Hillview Quarry proposed at Arthurs Seat. The results were emphatic. Over 4,000 people voted in it and 97% voted No.

Finally, the RE Ross Trust listened to the community.

I am ecstatic to tell the community that the proposed Arthurs Seat Quarry will not proceed. This has been a long long journey for the Dromana/Arthurs Seat/Red Hill communities.

The Save Arthurs Seat team of Mark and Michelle, alongside many other locals, dedicated innumerable hours, resources and a tireless energy to fight this proposal.

For me personally, the Save Arthurs Seat team were always extremely giving of their time and always on hand to answer my questions, or tour me around the location.

Thank you to the community who made your views clear. To every person who mentioned the Quarry to me as their big issue, whether in an email, a phone call, a survey, or as many people did, raised it directly with me outside Dromana IGA when I was street stalling. Thank you for lending your support to this cause.

The Mornington Peninsula is special. It must be protected. There has to come a time when we say no to developing the Peninsula in an unsustainable way. In my mind, we are well past that time. We have to protect our Mornington Peninsula for the long term. When I have kids, I want them raised in an environment similar to the one I was raised in.

I look forward to working with all stakeholders to talk about what we can now do to protect this land permanently. Once again, thank you.
