Saving Flinders Pier

THE FLINDERS PIER IS SAVED!

In the Victorian Budget yesterday, $1.5 million was allocated to begin the planning and restoration works on Flinders Pier.
This follows a long campaign by Save Flinders Pier after it was announced that the wooden pier would be demolished.
Since the campaign first began a year ago, the Pier itself has been recommended by Heritage Victoria for listing on the Heritage Register. Currently, that recommendation is out to community consultation until May 16 with a final decision in June.
While I strongly believe the Pier should be listed on the register, even if it is not listed, this Pier will be restored.
Flinders Pier is an important part of the Mornington Peninsula and holds significant value to locals and visitors alike.
Rebuilding the timber inner section will reinstate a much-loved community asset.
I recall speaking at the first Save Flinders Pier Town hall meeting on June 8 2021.
Now, just a year later, this beautiful icon is saved!
